Most of the time I’m definitely going with the Phd that’s years of focus on that same subject. While a neurodivergent may learn random facts and get an extensive breadth of knowledge in a short amount of time compared to a PhD, I don’t have any clue how long that hyperfocus/hyper-fixation has been going on for let alone if they’re learning for fact checked source which is more likely from a education/research background of a PhD. That’s not to say their advice is not valuable… just not at the same level. That being said, it can depend on the subject. If it’s an expansive subject, and I’m specifically interested in a specific area of it- then I am going to go with whoever seems to be more knowledgeable in that specialization. For example, I have EDS and MCAS, many doctors (I know not PhD but it’s a similar comparison) just blink their eyes when I tell them because they are unfamiliar with those abnormal diagnoses, and even then since they’re complex and one is fairly newly discovered (2017), I just get pills thrown at me. So I will value much more the opinions of those who have experienced, have loved ones with it or even a special interest in those areas specifically or even just rare diseases or have struggled with the American healthcare system. I am also receptive to holistic/trying to fix things naturally before medicine which unfortunately many medical professionals don’t bother with. So with more complex subjects- it can easily get a bit fuzzy. As sometimes the traditional way of learning subject can lead to gaps of knowledge a neurodivergent hyperfixation may not miss. That being said, I’m going to trust a neurodivergent about the experience of their own neurospiciness and how it works little more depending on what it is as it is their experience. So… TLDR: in general, the PhD is more likely to have years and therefore more experience. There are exceptions where the neurodivergent may have more experience with the super specialized subject in comparison or have actual experience the PhD is merely studying, then it can balance out.
